The Medical Assistant plays an essential role in supporting providers, maintaining efficient patient flow, and delivering a high-quality patient experience at Lucid Dermatology. This position is responsible for rooming and preparing patients, accurate clinical documentation, assisting with dermatologic procedures, maintaining exam rooms and clinical supplies, and supporting the overall day-to-day operations of the practice. The Medical Assistant is expected to work efficiently in a high-volume clinical environment while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, patient safety, and strong communication with providers, patients, and fellow team members.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support
  • Greet, room, and prepare patients in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner.
  • Obtain and accurately document patient concerns, medical history, medications, allergies, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Assist providers with general dermatology visits and procedures, including biopsies, cryotherapy, injections, excisions, wound care, suture removals, and other in-office treatments.
  • Prepare patients, rooms, instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to procedures.
  • Provide appropriate patient education, follow-up instructions, and post-procedure care as directed by the provider.
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout the visit and promptly escalate concerns when necessary.
Charting & Documentation

  • Accurately and efficiently document clinical information within ModMed/EMA.
  • Document chief complaints, histories, provider findings, procedures, medications, treatment plans, and follow-up information as directed.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and accurate with minimal provider corrections required.
  • Properly manage clinical orders, pathology specimens, pharmacy-related tasks, consents, photographs, and other required documentation.
  • Follow all internal charting and documentation protocols.

Patient Flow & Practice Operations

  • Maintain timely rooming and assist in keeping providers on schedule.
  • Work collaboratively with other MAs, providers, and the Front Desk to minimize patient wait times and clinical bottlenecks.
  • Remain attentive to provider needs and assist with maintaining continuous patient flow throughout the day.
  • Respond appropriately to changing clinical priorities and assist across clinical operations as needed.
  • Complete assigned opening, closing, and daily MA responsibilities.


Clinical Procedures & Safety

  • Properly prepare and maintain sterile instruments and procedural setups.
  • Follow infection control, sterilization, OSHA, and patient safety protocols at all times.
  • Handle specimens, clinical supplies, medications, and medical waste according to established practice protocols.
  • Maintain clean, organized, properly stocked exam rooms throughout the day.
  • Immediately report equipment issues, supply shortages, safety concerns, or clinical issues to the Lead MA and/or management.

Prior Authorizations & Follow-Up
  • Demonstrate proficiency in initiating and completing medication prior authorizations and other assigned clinical follow-up tasks.
  • Assist with biologics, laboratory orders/results, pathology follow-up, pharmacy communication, and other clinical workflows as assigned.
  • Monitor and complete assigned clinical messages, emails, tasks, and patient follow-up responsibilities in a timely manner.

Teamwork & Communication
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with providers, leadership, Front Desk staff, fellow MAs, and patients.
  • Remain receptive to coaching, training, and workflow adjustments.
  • Assist fellow team members when additional clinical support is needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain competency with Lucid Dermatology's clinical protocols and workflows.
  • Assist with training or supporting newer MAs when requested.

Every Medical Assistant is expected to contribute to a positive patient experience. This includes remaining attentive and present, communicating clearly, treating patients with kindness and respect, and helping patients feel comfortable and confident in the care they receive.

Qualifications:
  • Required: Minimum of 1-2 years of dermatological experience in a derm setting 
  • Required: Experience with ModMed/ EMA EMR software 
  • Preferred: fluent in Bengali or Spanish, but not required.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced team, and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred but not required.
